is votes. the open seat in california 26. we don't know what will happen there. 100% are in . mary bono mack is behind. will she join her husband coming an congress. bilbray is behind with 100% reporting in california as we mentioned already, incumbent allen west is behind in florida 18 with all the votes counted. representative menechek is leading. that appears to be a couple thousand votes apart. ke mcintyre, will he be one of the few blue dogs that remains? he has a small lead. there will be a run-off for one house seat in louisian the third two republicans there. but if all those leads hold, nbc news is current ly projecting they could pick up eight seats in the house again. yes, we know all those 100%. mail ballots particularly out in the state of california so we'll see but ifíu all leads hold it'a net pickup of eight seats for the democrats in the house. there's a lot more to come on this special two-hour post-election edition of "the daily rundown." i'm basically going on no sleep so you never know what i'm going to say which is why you s. up next, the independent streak. whic

of the northeast, it's now a recovery mission. and yesterday california military planes were loaded with utility vehicles ready to be shipped into new york. an army of some 50,000 utility workers from across the country, even canada, being deployed to the region to help in the massive project to restore power which will take weeks. three navy warships are anchored off the northeast coast to help with the relief effort. in new jersey, military trucks are being deployed to operate as polling places on election day in the hardest-hit communities still remain without power. now, the good news does trickle out slowly. today amtrak will begin offering limited service between new york city and boston. and new jersey transit will also start moving today with limited service. the new york subway system continues to make advances. the "m" train linking queens to manhattan just started running, but there are still no trains running below 34th street where half of manhattan remains in the dark. so the millions of new yorkers who depend on subways, they're now waiting in those long lines for buses. for those

. the fact that the court will have before it the whole issue of proposition from california and the issue of same-sex, it always has the potential to go after roe v. wade. we have three or four justices now in their 70s, one in poor health. it seems to me hard to argue that the next president, if it's the same president or the next president, are going to have an opportunity to pick supreme court nominees, and they will have an impact on roe v. wade it seems to me. >> across a range of issues, chris. i don't want to diminish roe v. wade but you pointed out the gay rights decisions. there are a lot of race decisions before the court on affirmative action and other race related matters. all social policy. there isn't a more important branch of government when it comes to social policy than the supreme court. it's always true. it's almost the single biggest thing that's at stake in any presidential election and this one particularly because the age of the justices, as you pointed out. the next president might get to appoint three supreme court justices in the next four years and that could a
